Yesterday, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed SB1440 with a 7 to 1 vote. AHS lobbyists opposed the bill, but were not effective. The AHS thinks having the mineral collection scattered abut the state under AHS control is better than reopening the mineral museum.
There will be another public hearing in the House before the bill is sent to the Governor. Public involvement is very important at this point. People need to let their State Representatives and Governor know that they want SB1440 to become law so that the mineral museum will reopen.
